BEAUTIFUL! - WILL HATCH (NAVAJO) ALABASTER STONE CARVING "SIGHT SEEING" CARVED FROM "UTAH ALABASTER" ARTIST SIGNED ON BACK, DATED 2007 "Origins & Birth: Born in 1955, William V. Hatch is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation. He has deep ancestral and artistic ties to the American Southwest, specifically the four-corners region. The Educator: Beyond his personal studio output, Hatch served as a Professor of Art at San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico. As an instructor, he acted as a foundational mentor to an entire generation of contemporary Southwestern painters and sculptors, encouraging young local artists to channel their cultural roots into their practices. Artistic Style: While Hatch is highly sought after by collectors for his alabaster and stone carvings, he is a multifaceted artist who is equally celebrated as a master painter. His work heavily leverages traditional Navajo symbolism, mythology, and the rugged landscape of the Southwest. His oil paintings and sculptures frequently feature recurring Native cultural themes, including ceremonial card players and community circles. Institutional Recognition: His fine art contributions have earned him placement in major museum registries, including the permanent collections registry at the Rockwell Museum of Western Art."
